God's Soverignty

I've been having a discussion around here about God appointing leaders. I would love anyone out there who reads my blog to weigh in on this one...

Do you think God appoints each leader of each and every country? Does He choose the right leader and our votes are merely a means for His will to reach it's end?

Do you think God has a candidate in store and in Spirit AND flesh we follow through with His will or we interfere with it by electing someone else? If yes, do you think He works it for good when we choose/vote against His will, or do we endure the bad consequences of not following Him as a nation?

Do you think another way that in my brain dead state right now I am not considering? :)

hey! I love your thoughts.... if I may weight in....
I'd strongly believe that it is impossible for us, as humans, to interfere with God's will. I don't believe, if God has a specific person in mind for a specific purpose, that we can mess that up.
That being said, I don't think that it necessarily is always all laid out and planned? Maybe sometimes it has to be one person over the other, but sometimes either candidate could be within His will? If that makes sense??
Just my opinion....
I am definitely on edge to see who will win this election! We just moved out of the US in May....

Wow. I have no clue what the answer to this is because I have no doubt that I do not understand the fullness of the sovereignty of God. I have some thoughts (I know you never doubted!!!) -- and they are that God's will is for His people to be seeking to Know Him as Creator and Father -- and sadly, America is far from a country that can be described as seeking Christ. So it doesn't surprise me that we have the two candidates that we have before us. Do I think God would handpick either of these two men to run this nation--I really don't think so but that is just my opinion. I think He would desire the leader of this country to be a Spirit Led Man of God. Neither appear to be that? I think these candidates are before us due to America's sad state of living very independent from Christ. But I do think God works ALL things out for those who love Him. My faith is in Christ alone--and with that comes peace regardless of who becomes president.

Great Topic....

I agree with JMBMOMMY (I think she's pretty special all the time, but I especially agree with her about this). I do not think that we are capable of grasping the sovereignty of God while we are constrained by our flesh. I think that God has allowed some pretty harsh non-Godly leaders in the past (i.e Nero and Clinton). I also do not believe that he would have desired for us as believers to have supported their candidacy prior to being in office. However, I think that the Bible is clear that once we have an elected official, God desires us to honor them and treat them with respect as the person that is in charge.
